Northgate U

No. Northgate U classes are not accredited by any other organization. The purpose of these programs is to help you structure your life, worldview, and mission according to the unique plans God has for you.

There is a planning team consisting of the Director of Groups, Director of Northgate U and the track leaders.

There are several ways. The pastors provide suggestions to the Planning team based on their observations of needs in the congregation. Participants also can select topics of interest on the class evaluation survey. The survey results are tallied so the planning team can use participant input to determine what to offer. Often, teachers propose classes that they want to lead.

There are three terms: Spring, which begins in February; Summer, which begins in late May or early June; Fall, which begins in September.

The length of the class is determined by the content of the material, ranging from 1 day seminars to as long as 13 weeks. Typical classes are 5-7 weeks.

Northgate U attempts to recover costs for the overall program. The registration fee for each class offsets the cost of participant materials, leader materials, scholarships, and promotional materials.

Yes for Sunday classes meeting at 4:00. Advanced registration and payment are required.

Generally, our youth provide childcare. An adult volunteer enlists childcare workers and schedules them based on childcare registration. Registration and payment must be made in advance so we can arrange for workers. Our goal is to make childcare affordable (i.e., less than a babysitter).

All classes are Christian based and fall into one of four tracks: Biblical Studies: Theological Studies, Ministry & Leadership and Life.

Biblical Studies are designed to help you gain a deeper knowledge of God’s Word.

The Ministry & Leadership track is designed to help you prepare to serve wherever God leads you.

The Life track is designed to help you integrate Christian beliefs into your everyday life and find support for everyday challenges.

The Theological Studies track is designed to help you articulate what you believe and why.

Registration occurs in the lobby beginning about a month before classes start. You can also register on our website at https://thisis.church/groups/northgateu/ and through the Northgate app.

Generally leaders of Northgate U classes are members of Northgate. Occasionally, guest teachers with advanced degrees in Theology or the Bible are invited to teach.

Before You Divorce, GriefShare and DivorceCare are offered twice a year: once in the Spring and once in the Fall. Surviving the Holidays for DivorceCare and GriefShare is offered annually, generally in November. Financial Peace University is offered as needed by the congregation or as requested by our pastors.

Contact Alyssa McNair (alyssa@ngate.org) or Lani Sinclair (northgateu@ngate.org). Leaders of classes typically have a background in teaching or facilitating and an expertise in the subject matter area. Leaders of classes must also be members of Northgate to ensure alignment of theology and values.

The delivery method for each class is assessed by the planning team and accommodating the preference of the leaders. Online delivery through zoom was implemented due to Covid. The Northgate U webpage indicates whether a class is in-person or online.

Most materials are shipped directly to your house. Materials developed in-house will be available on the first session of your class.

It depends based on the class. The registration form will give you an option to select “shared materials”, if you and your spouse can share a book. You will receive a reduced rate for shared books.

No. The class is a facilitated discussion between the spouses, so both must attend.
