Candy Cane Christmas at Northgate Kids
The weeks leading up to Christmas are some of our favorite moments of the year in Northgate Kids! This December, we’re celebrating with a special series called Candy Cane Christmas, where each week we look at a part of the candy cane and discover how it points us to Jesus.
Here’s a look at what your kids are learning and experiencing this month:
Week 1: The Shepherds We kicked off with the story of the shepherds—ordinary people who received the extraordinary news of Jesus’ birth. The shape of the candy cane reminds us of a shepherd’s hook, pointing us to the way God invites us close, just as He invited the shepherds.
Week 2: The Wise Men In week two, we explore the journey of the wise men. The candy cane has three stripes, reminding us of the three gifts they brought to honor Jesus. Their story teaches us about worship, generosity, and seeking after God.
Week 3: Jesus – The True Gift of Christmas Our final week centers on Jesus Himself. The candy cane is also shaped like a “J”, and its red and white stripes tell the story of His grace. As the red stripes fade while you enjoy the candy cane, it reminds us of how Jesus’ sacrifice washes us white as snow. What a beautiful way to remember the heart of Christmas!
Family Fun This December “Presence Is the Best Present” Photo Booth We’ve created a super fun Christmas Photo Booth for your family to enjoy! It’s a great way to capture memories and celebrate that presence—being together—is the best present of all.
The Giving Tree We’re also excited to offer a way for families to practice being like Jesus through our Giving Tree. The tree is filled with tags, each representing a gift for a family in need. Just take a tag, purchase the gift, and return it by December 21st at 9am. It’s a simple, meaningful way for kids to experience generosity this Christmas season.
